Sunday almost-noon

One Good Thing: The sun, she is shining. The sky, she is blue.
One Funny Thing: Me, planning dinners for the whole upcoming week.
One Weird Thing: Me, planning dinners for the whole upcoming week.

One God Thing: "You've observed how godless rulers throw their weight around," he said, "and when people get a little power how quickly it goes to their heads. It's not going to be that way with you. Whoever wants to be great must become a servant. Whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave." Mark 10:42-44
One Music Thing:
"When you love you walk on the water
Just don't stumble on the waves
We all want to go there somethin' awful
But to stand there it takes some grace
'Cause oh, we are not as strong
As we think we are" [Rich Mullins]
One Book Thing: "Gym Candy" (Carl Deuker) is a scary book to read when you have a kid in high school football, even though the situation in our house is quite a lot different.

Wednesday midmorning

One Good Thing: This too shall pass. The fact that I know this is very good.
One Funny Thing: The disciples in the gospel of Mark are so DUMB.
One Weird Thing: My whole freakin' life is weird right now. I'm not sure I not what "functional" means I'm so used to the "dys" in front of it.

One God Thing: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1
One Music Thing: It's proletariat day in Jango. All the songs are about overcoming class and whether it's possible. Who knew pop music covered this stuff?
One Book Thing: I have far too many of them piled up around me, and I'm not getting much done with them. Frustrating....

Monday morning

One Good Thing: This blog. It is strange and disturbing to me that it is easier for me to post here when things are not going well - but it is also a comfort to know that I have someplace to go to remind myself that there are good, and funny things in my life.
One Funny Thing: I dreamed of Ca$tle Age last night (an online dragons & knights & orcs game that I play on FB). The dream wasn't about playing the game - which happens when I've played too much, or too close to bedtime - but rather being in the game. I was a scantily-clad, ass-kicking warrior, and I had an excellent (albeit somewhat stressful) time slashing my sword through a thicket of irritating people.
So. Think I'm avoiding reality a little bit?
One Weird Thing: I really cannot stand the guy with whom I'm supposedly in a relationship. And he doesn't seem to care a whit about me. Makes me wonder why we haven't just ended it for real?

One God Thing: Lie not to one another.
[Col. 3:9]
One Music Thing: I made a CD mix for the guy, that I really love. How can I do that? It's perfect for him, and an excellent mix. If he was still the guy for whom I chose "Memphis Soul Song"...it wouldn't be over.
One Book Thing: I've checked out Ground Up, which seems to be about the destruction and possible reconstruction of a relationship. Maybe not the best choice at the moment, but we'll see.

Timidly joining in

One Good Thing: Love surely must be blind, or very forgiving, because people who tell me they love me do not appear to notice all my flaws. Don't tell them, OK?
One Funny Thing: I spent all last weekend trying to keep my toes covered because I had forgotten to take off my polish and 18th century Indian women didn't paint their toenails.
One Weird Thing: I can't make up my mind lately. It goes beyond indecisive and into borderless fuzz. I don't know what I want to do, what to eat, where to go, where to live, what job to do, or anything. Pretty weird?
One God Thing: He has never left me totally flapping in the breeze.
One Music Thing: It is extremely hard to stay angry while you listen to Celtic music.
One Book Thing: I just couldn't get into reading Janissary Tree so I didn't finish it and wish the book club would stop picking middle eastern settings and themes just because one guy likes them. I do like going to the restaurant and seeing the rest of the folks though.

Monday night, late

One Good Thing: liking somebody who likes me, too
One Funny Thing: the power of being very much done with someone else - and how that seems to inspire nothing short of complete and utter devotion in that person. It's bewildering, enormously flattering, and pointless (except in so much as it might get me some of the money back that I put into it)
One Weird Thing: beyond the funny thing? That I had, this past weekend, perhaps my first serious adult conversation EVER with my brother.

One God Thing: "Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good."
[Romans XII, 21]
(This relates to the funny thing!)
One Music Thing: Kate Nash, "Pumpkin Soup"
One Book Thing: This is more of a good thing than a book thing, but.... I've been trying again to read Thomas Dumm's Loneliness as a Way of Life, but I just cannot get through it; it's too depressing. Yay!

Monday night

One Good Thing: I'm very, very sleepy and so will probably not toss & turn as I did last night.
One Funny Thing: the accent is coming out strongly on this trip!
One Weird Thing: my hands and my feet have not been warm since Saturday.

One God Thing: "by the grace of God I am what I am" [1 Corinthians 15:10]
One Music Thing: Dismemberment Plan. Very cool, neo-punk, defunct (of course). Check it out.
One Book Thing: "Wonder is like grace, in that it's not a condition we grasp: wonder grasps us. We do not have the freedom to elude wonder's grasp." [from God Laughs & Plays: Churchless Sermons in Response to the Preachments of the Fundamentalist Right by David James Duncan]
